One layer down, my thought life has a lot of progress to make.... I have always struggled with self-doubt, and worry about others opinions. I often bunch ideas off a friend or my hubby, but I realize that in the end I need to Seek the Lord in all these things. I won't make the wrong call if I'm looking to Him for every little choice. But I'm getting ahead of myself, for each layer is built on the foundation below it.
In my soul is the Holy Spirit, God indwelling, giving direction and wisdom when we ask. I have been blessed to overflowing by His gifts. Last spring I hit bottom, struggling to relate to my husband, and feeling quite bankrupted in emotional energy, I asked a woman in my church to mentor me. While I felt my schedule was packed and one more thing would not fit, I started on the path of discipleship. Until that point my training in this way had been limited to my mother's input and little bits of wisdom drawn from friends and books. Moments of peace in the Scripture were morsels of hope. But I wasn't making the time. I'd started so many books and not finished them. I started a Bible in a year program, and a blessing counting book with my 1,000 gifts friends. But the discipline wasn't there. With the addition of accountability that all changed. My mentor challenged me, and we began to memorize and read. We took an entire year to savor a book and to memorize passages each week. I shared my worries and, instead of fixing them for me, she took my hand and we carried them to the cross. Oh I have so much to learn, but I have come so far. When I am all tumult inside, I can choose to process and doubt, or hit my knees. So many times this year I have poured out the Scriptures in my heart awash with a flood of tears. How different each Scripture is, when framed in the circumstance of my trials.
In the mean time I'm as busy as ever. I completed two Awana T&T books and memorized 200 verses to do so. I've learned so much about my family, my schedule, my heart, but most importantly, my Savior. This foundation pushes up and strengthens my life. In turn I have had small opportunities to pour those words into others. I had felt completely inadequate to disciple another person, until I saw it for what it was. Leading others to Him, being filled with His Word, and being transformed in the process. Like water raining down on a mountain pools up and pours into the pools beyond, each overflowing to the next. The source is not the pool, but the One giving the water. As my pool flows out I need to be filled again and again.
I am so thankful for the lessons He pours out into my life!

G is for Graduations
*This post may contain affiliate links. Please read our disclosure policy. *
This photo is a treasure to me. When I graduated with my associates degree, my grandfather was able to present me with my diploma. He had been a professor at that same school years before, and they invited him to do the honors. It was a special day.
I have my associates degree in business and accounting. When I attended my Doula training in Philadelphia, they asked what my major was. . . The response: "You were really running from this calling weren't you?!" :)
If I went back to school now, I don't know if I'd go for elementary ed. for teaching my kids, nursing for more Doula knowledge, or finish my business degree. Even so, I'm sure I've learned more in life than I ever did in school.

Over the next several weeks we have many graduation related events to attend. There will be a pinning ceremony, several graduations, and receptions. Nearly two or three every weekend. My head is spinning. I've been surfing pinterest to find grad gift ideas. The year I graduated from college, a family from our church gave me a copy of Stepping Heavenward by E. PRENTISS
. It is a fictional diary of a young girl all through her life as she grows in the knowledge of the Lord. This book was a complete hit with me, and spoke into my life in so many ways. It has become my go-to grad gift for girls. I'm still looking for a good gift book for boys, so it may hay have to be gift cards for now. :)
So what is your favorite grad gift to give?

After Hours
Monday night we had a blizzard (and all day Tuesday). Hubby was at work and had to drive home in it. What normally takes him 45 minutes, took him 6 hours. He couldn't see the road and had to just stop for a bit to calm his nerves. There were cars and trucks littering the ditches. He picked up a stranded co-worker and took him home too. Not far from where he works another stranded motorist left her car. She was only a mile from home they say. She never got there. *sigh*
Needless to say I couldn't sleep until he was home. It was a very late night.
Lots of praying. Lots of drop-to-your-knees-where-you-stand kind of praying.
Lots of nervous housework.
Made some awesome cinnamon rolls.
Talked to a friend until the wee hours.
I'm so thankful God brought him home! We have been snowed in for two days. It's hard to believe we were planting the spring garden last week. I will post snow and garden pictures soon, I promise. (Yes, those things go together here in Nebraska).
So what do you do after dark? I really should go to bed. But I don't.
Blessings, Laura

Joy from Jessica
One of my blessings in December 2012 was the visit I had from my dear sister, Jessica. It was so busy during Christmas that I didn't get to share about it with you all, but it was really very awesome! Jessica arrived on a Tuesday that we didn't have any major plans, so when the kids and I drove to Denver to pick her up, we had a great time running around downtown.
It is easy to park and then get around downtown Denver on foot (or trolley). So we did! We rode the length of the 16th street mall, and had lunch at Noodles & Co. We had a great time exploring the outdoor art around the Denver Art Museum:
We also enjoyed visiting the outdoor German Market that is set up downtown, just during the holidays. I had seen it last year when I took the girls to the Nutcracker for Christmas, but we were late for the show and couldn't check it out. It was much more fun getting to go there and shop, and we even found a lovely Christmas ornament for a souvenir.
One of the best giggles came from this display at the Russian vendor:
ummm Madonna? I found my self singing this Sesame Street Song as we walked around. :)
Over the next week, we took Jessica with us to the Farmer's Market, our Awana Christmas Party, and to visit a local school I'm trying to interest her in. She also spent a heap of time with my Grandma, and helped her get her Christmas cards done, which was a huge blessing. I miss her already. My favorite part was when everyone told us we look like twins... since I'm a decade older, that was awesome!
Sisters are a true blessing. I just wish mine didn't live so far away!
